Deerlick Camp, Minister Creek Trail, National Forest, PA
FEE: $20.00 Due June 13th
DEPARTING:
6:00 P. M., Friday from St. Al's School (We must tie your son’s equipment to
the top of the vehicles).
RETURNING:
Sunday afternoon, to St. Al's. We
will call the phone tree approximately one hour from Buffalo.

Monday, June 13th 2005.
Deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE. Trip
will be postponed to August in the event of rain.
SPECIAL
CONSIDERATIONS: This is a High Adventure Activity, a wilderness trip in the
PA National Forest in an environment that includes rattlesnakes and bears.
A Scout must be able to carry 1/3 of his body weight on his back for a
distance of three miles, and own or be able to borrow REQUIRED EQUIPMENT #
1-6, below. Space is very
limited due to transportation, so to be considered, bring the following
equipment to the June 13th meeting.
1.)
Hiking Boots (leather
sneakers are not boots). Good
boots are available for about $5 at thrift stores.
2.)
Two (2) pairs Heavy Duty non-cotton Hiking Socks, and two (2) pairs of non-cotton
Hiking Sock Liners.
These help prevent blisters. Boots
should be about ˝ size larger than your normal size to fit these socks
comfortably.
4.)
Rain Gear: A
rain suit to keep you dry, a 5'X7’ plastic tarp to keep your sleeping bag dry
at night, and 12 clear lawn bags to keep your extra clothing dry.
5.)
Non-Cotton Clothing: Such
as your olive-drab nylon Activity Pants. Polar
Fleece sweatshirts and nylon pants are available for about $4 at thrift stores.
Check the tags, look for silk, wool, or any synthetic such as polar fleece,
polyester, nylon, rayon, etc. Blue
jeans & cotton socks are forbidden.
6.)
Backpack. A real camping backpack with a waist strap, not a school
book-bag. Ranger Rick has a couple
of extra packs that he can loan to Scouts who bring the above equipment to the
June 13th meeting.
7.)
100%
Polypropylene Long Underwear: If you own it, you must bring it.
Space is limited, so preference will be given to Scouts who own poly-pro
long underwear and bring it June 13th. You should always pack it to keep you warm when everything
you own gets wet. Buy poly-pro
a couple of sizes LARGER than your normal size.
