What a great trip! Kudos to your scouts or venturers who put that together, especially the added exchange pieces. What a riot!
We're in the process of packing up for a biking trip in Denmark, with a similar exchange with a Danish scout troop that have been keyboard pals with us for at least a year. As usual, we adults were TOTALLY not expecting this trip plan to come from the youth leaders (we were thinking it was looking like Seabase...). Silly us.
Plans have come together, fundraising has worked. The itinerary they've worked out with their counterparts is very sound. Best part of all, they're letting the old guy CR come along because he's one of the adults who is able to get the time off! It's kind of them. I can't wait to see them in action... they've even been learning Danish for the last five months!
Three weeks bicycle camping (and sea kayak camping) in Denmark on their own plan, vs. a week in traditional summer camp. Hmmm.... somehow, I think we can see our way to counting this for OA or camping MB. Of course, these are the kids that are also generating the ideas for a "non-traditional" homebrew summer camp experience.
Thanks for the post, hat's off to your youth, and an official "Scout Salute" to the adults who gave them the freedom and support to do something really special.
