When a Troop or Patrol carries on a definite project apart from working on the Scout Requirements, the Scouts have a greater zest for camp and feel a deeper understanding of the fundamental spirit of camping. Such projects may be short, and furnish the objective of a one-day hike or weekend camp. Or the scope may be so large that the Troop can work on the project all winter. A Winter Project provides a continuous interest in the camp, and makes the Scouts eager to return from week to week. Such projects are: Forestry projects, keeping feeding racks for birds supplied, or making a nature collection. Not only do such projects teach Scoutcraft, study of trees and wild life, but they develop fine team work, good Troop spirit, and a sense of relationship of the Scout Program to the community. By all means, give the Troop a project for their winter hike or camp.
