XXIII GAMES FOR THE PATROL MEETING Patrols will move round four bases, at each of which a different Leader will be appointed to run a game under the direction of a Scouter : that is to say,~ the Scouter will hand the boy a briefing slip (as under) and will stand back and allow him to take charge. I All necessary gear will be available. At the conclusion of the period, a short inquest should be held when Scouter Observers will comment on the conduct of the games. The following are suggestions only : 1. " Find the Mark " : Patrol in line facing a distant object which is pointed out to them. They then blindfold I
themselves and must walk in complete silence towards the object and sit down when they think they are within three yards of it. Blindfolds must not be removed till the signal is given. At the conclusion of this, if time allows, the Leader could put his Patrol through a short period of' " Blindfold Drill." . 2. " Duck Stone " : An up ended log (or bucket) about four yards from a baseline. For each player a noggin of wood (say 4" diameter by 4" long). One player is " It " and places his noggin on the " block " (log). Players in turn try to knock it off with their noggins. " It " can tag them when they try to recover their noggins and return to base (but only after they have touched their noggins) but there is a general release when his own noggin is knocked off the block. The first player tagged becomes 's It.91 If 44 It " makes a clean catch, he changes places with the Thrower. 3. " Bucket Cricket Player stands on bucket and defends with bat. 4. " Arc de Triomphe Two players hold a Scout staff between them horizontally. Other players walk under it while it is progressively lowered. Players must avoid touching the staff, but cannot bend their knees outwards and must bend backwards from the knees. They are " out " if they touch the bar or touch the ground with anything except their feet. |
