XXVI " POINT TO POINT " This is a form of Patrol Competition in which each Scout is required to make an individual effort. One Scout from each Patrol sets out at intervals of one minute round a circular course covering 12 Points, at 60 each of which he will be required to perform some small task based on the Second Class Badge and " Camping Standards." Each " Point " will be manned by a Scouter or Rover (if necessary, the boys could go twice round the course, in which event each Scouter would cover two " Points," e.g. I and 7, 2 and 8, and so on). The competitors will be issued with record cards, on which their score is marked. If a player fails at any, Point " he is sent to a central base for " running relmrs (instruction) before proceeding. The Patrol with the highest aggregate score is the winner and receives the Course Trophy (whatever it may be). The highest individual score is similarly announced. The following are suggestions only : Point I. " Put a non slip loop round your own waist and make the free end fast to your left ankle." Point 2. " Identify six trees in this area." Point 3. " Improvise a tent peg." Point 4. " From a given point, measure out 1.2 yards NNE, one furlong NW, 33 feet SSW, 4 fathoms ESE, and from that point give the compass direction to your starting point." Point 5. " Light a fire and boil water." Point 6. " Make a diagonal lashing." Point 7. " Throw a lifeline over a target." Point 8. " Estimate the height of a (named) tree." 61
Point 9. " Use the ' giant stride ' to swing across this (imaginary) ravine." Point 10. " Produce a grease trap for a soakage pit." |
